Diamond Sharpening Hones, come in four different grits for dressing or reshaping.
Coarse (250) grit, black handled hone, is for reshaping those tools that have been neglected to long.
Medium (400) grit, purple handled hone, is used as a follow up to the coarse, and for slightly less aggressive sharpening.
Fine (600) grit, red handled hone, is for routine maintenance of your tools when done on a regular basis.
Super fine (1200) grit, blue handled hone, is for lapping or fine de-burring on the edge of your tool for a ultra fine and sharp cutting edge. Much like when barbers ran there straight razors up and down a piece of leather to make a perfect edge.
